Three Paths to a Running System

The app is identical everywhere — only where case files are stored changes. Cloud signup today, or your own server: single Ubuntu command or Mac mini office installer.

Clean Ubuntu 22.04/24.04+ server, domain pointing to it — the installer handles the rest.

Mac mini on the desk. Same installer, macOS native mode, menu bar application.

Ubuntu

Clean Server, Single Command

The installer sets up database and queues, generates secrets, issues TLS certificates, applies schemas, creates the first admin, and prints pairing code for mobile apps. Rerunning is safe.

If you don't have an administrator — we will handle the installation ourselves as part of turnkey deployment (see "Deployment").

Mac

Mac mini in the Office

Same installer, macOS native mode: Homebrew sets up Postgres and Redis, services launch on boot via launchd, and the menu bar item shows status, opens workspace, creates backups, and checks updates.

To build the menu bar application, free Xcode Command Line Tools (xcode-select --install) — without them the server still installs and works, just without this window (--no-control-app skips it intentionally). The app window is not signed yet Apple (this requires a paid account Apple Developer ID — this is our limitation, not technical): first launch is via right click in Finder → «Open", not double click.

From other computers on the same office network, the server is accessible immediately at cassation.local — with zero configuration. Access outside the office (in court, on the road) is via relay, see "Deployment"; enabled upon request.
